COVID-19 Support

Help support urgent community needs created by the recent virus outbreak while keeping in mind the following:

Honor the public health recommendations- If you’re delivering supplies or food to a family or organization, follow the suggestion of social distancing- ring the doorbell and move away from the door, text them beforehand, etc.

Feel connected through solo volunteering- Even if you’ve signed up for a solo volunteering opportunity- like delivering food to someone who needs it or distributing one-pagers with information- know what the people you’re helping appreciate your outreach and you’re helping feel connected. You’re also staying true to the health department’s suggestion of social distancing.

Look for opportunities that are limited in size- Organizations know how important of a role they play in minimizing the spread of the disease. If you are committed to volunteering with others, look for a group size of 10 or less.

Stay home when you are sick- Of course, you should be doing all of the things to stay safe- handwashing, limiting exposure, etc.- but this one deserves a second shout out. If you are not feeling well, please stay home and get well. Thanks to the people who think like you, there will be plenty of volunteers out there to help when needed.

Volunteer Description: VHL Alliance Marketing/Communications Volunteer

We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Communications Volunteer to further the VHLA Alliance’s mission and vision. The volunteer will work alongside and receive mentorship by the VHL Alliance’s Director of Advancement related to messaging, communications, and marketing through social media and the organization’s website (vhl.org)

VHL Alliance: The VHL Alliance is a well-established non-profit is dedicated to research, education, and support to improve awareness, diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for those affected by VHL. The VHL Alliance is the preeminent resource and clearing house of patients, caregivers, researchers and the medical community.

Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) is a genetic condition involving the abnormal growth of blood vessels in up to 10 parts of the body. It is caused by a flaw in one gene, the VHL gene, which regulates cell growth causing patients to battle a series of tumors throughout their life.

Skills & Qualifications of Ideal candidates:

Organized, driven, efficient, and passionate aspiring Communications or Marketing professional
Either currently enrolled in an Associate or Bachelor degree program or a recent college graduate. Marketing, Communications, Business and Graphic Design majors desired, but not required
Strong familiarity with Social Media and its applications for a non-profit; you must be familiar with the platforms of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube
Comfortable and confident using Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
Able to curate, proofread & edit content independently
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Effective team member
Take initiatives and brainstorm new ideas
High energy and ability to learn quickly
Ability to work independently/Carry out responsibilities with minimal direction
Positive and open-minded attitude
Proficient with Adobe Indesign/Illustrator, WordPress, preferred
